A place that does something to people

Some places are built to pass through. Others are created to stay in. This was already recognized in the early 1930s. Along the national highway, high above Lake Vättern, the foundations were laid for what is now Gyllene Uttern – a castle on the mountain, built for people passing through, but who chose to stay. For the view. For the peace and quiet. For the feeling of being somewhere else.

Since 1933, Gyllene Uttern has been just that, a place where travelers, bon vivants, and decision-makers have gathered to eat, meet, rest, and celebrate. Not by chance. But because the place has an effect on people. Today, we are developing Gyllene Uttern with the same respect for history but with an eye to the future. Our ambition is clear: to be a Nordic destination where nature, hospitality, and experiences truly come together. Here, there is room for both focus and tranquility. Conferences that require presence. Weekends that take time. Meals that linger longer than planned.

The weight of the castle, the view of Lake Vättern, and the proximity to Gränna set the tone. The pace slows down. Conversations deepen. Whether you come here for a meeting, a getaway, a celebration, or just to disconnect. Our promise is not loud. But it is clear:

You will want to stay longer than you planned.
And you will long to return sooner than you think.
A warm welcome to Gyllene Uttern.
